Match the hole saw material to the substrate: bi-metal hole saws (Lenox Speed Slot, Milwaukee Hole Dozer) handle wood, drywall, plastic, and most metals up to ¼" — the workhorse for electrical and plumbing rough-in. Carbide-tipped hole saws (Diablo Carbide) are needed for stainless steel, cast iron, or abrasive composites. Diamond grit hole saws are for tile, glass, and concrete.
